Research interest:

My research goal is to understand how the primary producers in the ocean adapt to changes in CO2 and climate, and how their responses, in turn, influence the exchange of carbon between the ocean and the atmosphere. I develop new geochemical indicators based on isotopes and trace elements in the biominerals produced by diatoms and coccolithophores. These help us understand why the amounts of biomineral could change in response to ocean acidification and on longer timescales the causes of changes in cell sizes and dominance of certain algal groups.
